Deciding for 005 - Charmeleon

Charmeleon
Though the least recognized of his evolutionary chain, I find that I really like Charmeleon. And I sincerely doubt I need to worry about him getting booted.

Name: Good. Personally, I like his name. One could argue that it is too close to Charmander, and that this line needs more name changing, but I think it works well.

Appearance: Very good. He has simple signs of progression, such as being larger, having more defined and longer limbs, and having a larger flame on his tail, as well as having eyes more similar to Charizard. I'm very fond of the one horn that he has, which will split into two in his next evolution.

This discussion will end on October 29th, 2015 at midnight.

Deciding for 004 - Charmander

Now for little Charmander.

Name: Good. Interesting, not funny-sounding.

Appearance: Good. Simple, nice complementary colors, cute blue eyes and tiny teeth, and he has the little marks above the inward top edge of his eyes, just like Bulbasaur and Squirtle.

Extra: His tail fire being connected to his fainting is cool.

This discussion will end on October 28th, 2015, as midnight.

Charmander was added to the True Pokedex.

Deciding for 003 - Venusaur

Venusaur isn't likely to get booted off for many reasons, but hey, we're at the end of the first starter. Another two starters and their evolutions to go before we get to the ones where there is actually a question.
Name: Good. Basic, good progression, more inventive than ones like "Deerling" or "Sandslash".

Appearance: Good. Logical progression, though he lost his little triangle-ish patches that I liked.

Deciding for 002 - Ivysaur

Ivysaur: Evolution of Bulbasaur
Next on our list is Ivysaur. And yes, it is possible for us to allow one Pokémon on an evolutionary chain and not another. Not likely to happen here, however.

Name: Ineffectual. Not as good as Bulbasaur, in my opinion, but not bad.

Appearance: Very Good. Color tone change, and a significant change in the bulb and leaves, plus growth of the teeth and definition given to the ears. Slightly longer legs. Also simple is good-looking in his own right.

The discussion will close at midnight, October 24th, 2015.

On Using the Term "Ineffectual"

A term that I think will be useful for our discussions is "ineffectual". For example, Meowth's name might be labeled ineffectual, meaning that it is neither a point for nor against him. Of course, while one person might think that the name "Meowth" is ineffectual, one might think that it is a point against him and label it "bad", but it is still a useful term. (And much shorter to use than "not good or bad")

Deciding for #001 - Bulbasaur

This discussion, like many of the beginning ones will be, is more a courtesy than anything else. It's Bulbasaur. Of course we aren't going to cut him.
However, as this is the first discussion on the website, we might as well get some practice, right? So, here are my thoughts on Bulbasaur:

Name: Good

Bulbasaur's name isn't anything hugely clever, but it sounds nice, and is more creative than simpler ones like Meowth. So I would call this a slight point for little Bulby.

Appearance: Very good

Bulbasaur (obviously) has the classic look, and honestly, he's just plain cute. The patches of darker green are a stylistic choice of a type that seems to be becoming very rare in modern Pokémon. Bulbasaur has a surprising amount of subtlety to him. The ear-things are close to his head, not overly pointy, and don't stick out much. His legs are small and simple. He has tiny little-bitty teeth. Also, he has red eyes that are still cute and not at all creepy. Lastly, though, is the little mark by the inside top edge of his eyes. That is something you only see in older-style Pokémon.
